You will stop at the Swiss medieval Town of Rapperswil, also known as the “Town of Roses.” Over 600 varieties of roses bloom here from June to October, turning the whole place into a dreamland. Here you’ll have the opportunity to admire the charming castle along with the stunning views across Lakes Zurich and Obersee. The castle was built in the early 13th century on a rocky hilltop and is surrounded by the present cemetery chapel and the former Stadtmuseum of Rapperswil.
After exploring this pretty old town, you’ll continue the journey by crossing the border to Vaduz and travel to the bustling capital of Liechtenstein, where you will have spare time to discover the hidden beauty of the city.
The most important landmark here is Vaduz Castle, which is the palace and official residence of the Prince of Liechtenstein. It was constructed in the 12th century and underwent a major restoration in the 20th century. Unfortunately, it is closed to the public eye as the princely family still lives there, but it’s still worth gazing on its beauty from the outside. The Cathedral of St. Florin, Government House and City Hall are also noteworthy sights displaying different styles and periods of architecture.
Next, we will proceed to Maienfeld, also known as Heidiland, where the well-known Heidi village is located. The view will transport you back to the times when the world famous children’s story was created. A short walk will unravel a collection of beautiful mountain houses, tiny shops selling local products, and of course, lots of baby goats.
On the way back, you will make a stop at Walensee that lies between the cantons of St. Gallen and Glarus. Here you will spend a calm afternoon strolling and admiring the clear blue water along with the amazing mountainous view.
