It is situated 35 km away from Geneva and right on the base of the snow-covered Swiss Alps.
People also call Annecy under the name “Venice of the Alps” due to Thiou River that flows through the town, creating canals reminding of Venice. Located beside the clear waters of Lake Annecy, the town offers a large green park with walkways, tiny bridges, fountains, swans and options of boating activities.
Wander around and explore the delightful Old Town, which was built in the Middle Ages. Take a look at the central landmark of Annecy – Palace of the Island “Palais de L'île”. It is a medieval quadrangular building, which was a court and prison in the 12th century, and is an art and history museum nowadays.
Later, discover the Chateau d'Annecy – a re-established castle, dominating the town as a historical memorial. The castle shows the development of the princely palace from the 13th to the 16th centuries.
In the past, the castle served as a military barracks and became a museum after the Ministry of Armies have purchased it in 1953.
The Menthon Saint Bernard is a castle built in the 13th century. Proudly situated on a rocky outcrop in the top of the town, offers a magnificent panoramic view of the whole area.
Château de Menthon means a house on a rock. This castle consists of 105 rooms. The Menthon family opened it for the public eyes.
