During the annual open cellar day held on Ascension Day weekend, Valais Vintners offer visitors a unique culinary experience that celebrates the themes of freedom, fondness, and exercise. With over 200 wine cellars across the canton participating in the event, visitors can taste a variety of wines and learn about the different grape varieties. Valais boasts almost 5,000 hectares of cultivated land with over 50 recognised grape varieties, including Fendant (Chasselas), Petite Arvine, Heida (Païen or Savagnin Blanc), Cornalin, Humagne Rouge, Syrah, and Pinot Noir. Visitors can discuss their favourite wines with the winemakers and purchase them on the spot. In addition to the wine tasting, there are various social and musical events in the wine villages, creating a festive atmosphere.
From 11:00 to 18:00, visitors stroll from one wine cellar to the next, use the shuttle bus service wherever it's available, or explore the vineyards on foot.
